Taffy
The gently wrapped slubs and lustrous colors of this soft and silky cotton remind us of salt water taffy as it is folded, pulled, and turned. Its unique combination of texture and color will enhance all your handmade treasures. The easy care of cotton makes Taffy perfect for baby blankets, placemats, table runners, sweaters and much more. Weaving Yarn Tip: To show off Taffy's subtle texture best, we recommend alternating it with at least one or more smooth yarns such as Pearl Cotton, Homestead Cotton or Newport Linen in both warp and weft. For an interesting effect in color and texture, use a complimentary color of Taffy every 3/8" to 1/2". Setts: For light weight fabrics, combine Taffy with 10/2 Pearl Cotton or Homestead Cotton at 16 -18 epi. For heavier fabrics, use Taffy with 3/2 or 5/2 Pearl Cotton or Newport Linen at 10-15 epi. Knitters: For a homespun, casual look use Taffy on size 5 needles at a gauge of 6 stitches/inch. For a heavier look try Taffy doubled on size 9 needles with 4 stitches/inch. Remember, cotton is an inelastic yarn and can’t hold a rib like wool. Therefore, consider a hem or picot edge instead of a ribbing.General Notes: As always, if you're planning to use highly contrasting colors we recommend testing for color fastness because excess dye can be a problem in any strongly colored yarn. Of course, the best way to do this is to make a sample and wash in the same manner you plan to wash the finished product. A short cut would be to twist the two colors together as you would for a twisted fringe, wash and let dry. If there is any indication of bleeding, skein the yarn, wash it until the water runs clear and let it hang dry. This will remove any excess dye which might fade to nearby colors. We also recommend that you machine dry the finished piece on low until almost dry and lay flat to shape for the final drying period.
